The Improved Mediterranean Diet: With Culinary Argan Oil.

The unsaturated fatty acids in Argan Oil help to alleviate the Metabolic syndrome, reduce blood pressure, etc, so basically all around good for your health, from ‘good’ cholesterol to keeping cells healthy.

And one of the things your body needs is Omega 3, an unsaturated fatty acid, but your body can’t produce it. So you need to add it through what you eat.

Argan oil, especially the Extra Virgin quality, is a great source of unsaturated fatty acids. Argan oil is rich in Vitamin E and Linoleic Acid (Omega 6), actually way more than Olive oil.

Remember the revolution Fish oil and the Mediterranean diet had almost a generation ago? Still going strong, which now has added help from scientific results which prove the medical benefits of Argan oil. And Argan oil is super tasty – but you have to appreciate a slightly nutty taste.  A healthy lifestyle is a way to go and some fats help to promote good health.

Read more about fats here.  For more info on oleic acid – especially from a ‘dairy’ interest: here.  Or on WebMD on Omega 3,6 and 9: here.  Finally: what is the meaning of ‘3’, ‘6’, and ‘9’.

Unfortunately, culinary argan is as usual not mentioned yet in these articles, so we have to educate a lot of nutritionists, dieticians, food writers, etc. in regard to the properties and benefits of Argan oil.

Olive oil, the leading oil in the Mediterranean diet, has great properties but is challenged. In the USA imported Olive oil , the Extra Virgin quality, is/was mostly undiluted, two recent publications show Oliveoiltimes.com and Time.com. A staggering 69% is not what they pretend to be. Unlike olives, argan is not high in salt. It also has zero trans fat and much more Vitamin E and Linoleic Acid (Omega 6) than Olive oil.

We feel the old French saying: ‘you are what you eat’ is still very appropriate, see our blogs on www.sulanyc.com and www.culinaryarganoil.com. Prof. Dr. Mourad Errasfa thinks it’s more as he defines Argan as ‘green medicine’; Interesting to follow what scientific developments will take place on the medical benefits of Argan oil. There are many eminent scientists who agree with ‘Food = medicine’  is also the motto of dr. Josh Axe. His article on omega-9 is here: https://draxe.com/omega-9-benefits/

Dr. Helioswilton Sales-Campos, a Brazilian immunologist published in 2013 an overview of the modulatory effects of oleic acid on health in disease. His team of 5 researchers addressed the impact of OA (Oleic Acid) on the improvement of the immune response associated with more successful elimination of pathogens such as bacteria and fungi.

Oleic acid helps to reduce blood pressure, an example of the benefits. In a recent study by Dr. Meryam Debbabi, Dr. Gerard Lizard et al. ‘Comparison of the effects of the effects of major fatty acids present in the Mediterranean diet….’  ( Journal of Chemistry and Physics of Lipids, 2017) //Oleic Acid was found to prevent the development of neurodegenerative diseases. The oleic acid attenuates (= reduces) the toxic impact of cholesterol: 7-Ketocholesterol, which has a negative impact on cells, and can cause plaque.

GRETHA, a group of professors of medicine and pharmacology, is initiating clinical trials in Mediterranean countries. We will publish the results when they become available.
